Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if OT is right for my child/family?

Call or email today to request a free consultation. A consultation will help you determine if your child is in need of a comprehensive evaluation. In some cases, a screening and strategies to try at home may meet your needs.

How long will my child need to be in therapy?

I always tell my clients they will know it's time to discharge therapy when they start noticing they are spontaneously putting the strategies we worked on into practice in day to day life. The pathway to that outcome is highly dynamic and unique for each client. My aim is always to be working toward discharge so my clients can enjoy a therapeutic life, not a lifetime of therapy. For those with more complex needs, I offer discounted per-session rates for purchase of multi-session packages and recommend an episodic-care model where we prioritize addressing a defined need before taking a therapeutic break. Planned breaks can allow downtime to let children and families implement therapy strategies and see which integrate best into daily life.

Will I receive a written report of evaluation?

Upon completion of a comprehensive evaluation or a screening, a caregiver meeting will be scheduled whereupon results and a recommended plan will be discussed and finalized. After that meeting, a final report will be provided.

How will I be billed for services?

Sage OT accepts cash, check, and credit card (including FSA/HSA cards). Cards are processed using a HIPAA secure payment processing system. Sage OT is an out-of-network provider at this time but superbills to submit to your insurance company are available by request. Sarah can also help you access community resources that may assist with reimbursement for private therapy services.

What if my child has already had an evaluation by an OT within the last 6 months?

In many cases, Sage OT is able to accept comprehensive assessments completed at outside facilities without conducting a new evaluation. This can be discussed during your free consultation.

Does Sage OT only work with children?

Sarah has clinical experience with clients of all ages from birth to elder care and does offer services to adults on a case-by-case basis. Some examples of care Sarah can provide for adults:

  • Sensory assessment: Assessment of sensory needs and the role your unique needs may be playing in relationship conflicts, struggles at work, difficulty with household management, disordered eating, overwhelm from caregiving roles, etc.

  • Caregiving co-occupation: From surviving to thriving in the role adjustment that comes as families welcome a new child into the family. Sage OT provides support for psychosocial needs, analysis of household management processes, and adaptive strategies when caregiving is needed at a time when you are running on half a tank.

  • Extra support during post-surgical rehabilitation: Whether you need help with short term home modifications, guidance and accountability for completing your rehab exercises, and/or troubleshooting how to adapt some daily tasks they didn’t cover in your hospital based care, Sage OT can help.
